FreeNAS can run over VMware, see http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/168.
But I have not seen somebody have run FreeNAS over Xen. So I will trying to run FreeNAS over Xen in next days

I have tried to install FreeNAS in VMWare. It works. FreeNAS serves out files like it would running on baremetal. One problem is FreeNAS is slow. I have an all Macs network so I do not know if that has anything to do with it. On baremetal, FreeNAS is dramatically faster compared to the virtualized FreeNAS on VMWare.

So my next interest is running FreeNAS on Xen. However, I cannot do this at the moment because the PC that has been used to run VMWare is not compatible with Xen. To do this I have to buy a new computer. So have you tried out FreeNAS on Xen?
